I think if anything the US would be annexing Canada.

In a mutually beneficial and peaceful way.

Random slightly related fact: Canada is the only country that has paid off all of its debt to the US before our silly government could change its mind and forgive it. If we hadn't forgiven China's debts after WWI/II, it probably wouldn't be holding most of our economy today.

It's not really that countries anexed others. Mostly. It's more like countries joined up. The states are just how the federations were subdivided.

A sudden thought, instead of going for complete reality with future humans, we could do a Command and Conquer style fighting for them, that way warfare is a bit more workable with the book.

I'll only be mentioning that a lot of wars took place near the end of the Extinction Period. I'm not really gonna touch at war on Earth anywhere else at all in the novels.

I may elaborate a bit on who went to war with who at what time and for what reason and such in the history book, but I won't really be describing any battles.

When you finish the trilogy of books you could go and write a mini-series about Earth's history and stuff. Maybe. Just a thought.

They are as follows:

Resistance - Somewhere during the late Extinction Period.
Void - Somewhere during or after the time of The Peoples of Algol.
Last Light - WAAAAAAAAY in the future, near the end of the universe.

Is the book going to mention anything about Earth? Or is this just a sub topic?

One of the three supplementary books will have stuff about Earth's history, as in Earth's future.

PostSubject: Re: The Future   Mon Aug 01, 2011 5:13 am

OKAY, so I think we need to take this into a more every day life type direction.

First though, I began making a list of future technologies and systems that appear in novels that take place in the LiA universe (excluding those much further in the future and past; I'll explain the tech later):

==Wretches and Kings (+/- 100 years in the future)

-Exoskeleton (think Iron Man, but more bulky) - [clothing / transport / robotics / military]
-EMP Bomb - [military]
-Chamo-suit (provides semi-invisibility) - [clothing / military]
-ACR ("acre"; armed combat robot) Soldier - [robotics / military]
-Fully/near human-AI computers - [information]
-DAR ("dahr"; domestic aid robots) - [domestic / robotics]
-FIVR ("fiver"; full immersion virtual reality) - [entertainment / information]
-SCI ("sky"; sensor communications intell) Netmork - [security / information]
-STRAP ("strap"; sensitive touch reforming adhesive padding) - [clothing]
-Commertial animal cloning - [medicine / agriculture]
-Human cloning for parenting and soldiers (highly controvertial, but legal) - [medicine]
-Commertial organ cloning - [medicine]
-Genetic modification (high controvertial and secret) - [medicine / military]
-PULSE Suit ("pulse"; psychokenetic utility lancer suit equipment; makes use of the tech below and is used by very special government forces) - [clothing / military / security]
-Psychokenetic field technology (allows remotely moving objects using... something) - [military]
-Stasis field technology ("freezes" "time" in the field's area) - [medicine / military]
-Cold fusion reactors (or maybe something else) - [power]
-Arc reactors (I like Iron Man, don't I?) - [power]
-Genetic ID - [information / security]
-Commertial flights to the Moon - [space travel]
-Data-based GCU (Global Crediting Unit; aka "Credits" - ยค) - [information]
-3D/VR Television/Computers - [domestic / information]
-The UE Paper - [information]
-CSRRR ("caesar"; compact search-and-rescue or recon robots) - [robotics / military]
-AI auto-pilot in most vehicles - [transport / robotics]
-Magnet cars and (even verticle) streets (such as in Minority Report) - [transport]
-Flying "cars" - [transport]
-Robotic limb/organ replacement (more favourable than cloned part, as they last much longer and aren't rejected) - [robotics / medicine]
-Global Maglev train network, with sub-crustal tunnels (that go through the Mantel) - [transport]
-Completion of the ISS (International Space Station) - [space travel]
-Completion of the first Moon colony - [colonisation]
-Completion of the first Mars colony - [colonisation]
-Start of asteroid mining - [space travel / resaurces]
-Sonic weaponry (using sound waves and beams) - [military]
-Ion weaponry (using subatomic particles; being tested) - [military]

==The Peoples of Algol (+/- 200 years in the future)

-The Slipdrive - [space travel]
-The HEX Suit - [clothing]
-Xephlon (related to spider silk; named after the inventor) - [material]
-Nanomeds - [robotics / medicine / biotech]
-Biorestoration (eg. bringing recently extinct species back) - [biotech / environmental]
-DiReCT / DRCT ("direct"; disintergration-reintergration crossover transport; goods transport) - [transport / information]
-Portal technology (being tested) - [transport / military]
-Dimensional weaponry (being tested) - [military]

So, what tech do you guys think would have evolved by A) 100 years in the future and B) 200 years in the future?

Then, also, what changing in tech and such should I make in the novels?

-Exoskeleton (think Iron Man, but more bulky) - [clothing / transport / robotics / military] There are already plausible designs for Iron Man-type suits that are only slightly more bulky, possibly put in use in the next ten years.
-EMP Bomb - [military] We practically have them already.
-Genetic ID - [information / security] Have it.
-Commertial flights to the Moon - [space travel] Getting it soon.

We already have something fairly close to these. Of course, in 100 years, they probably won't be too much more advanced.

Lolz... Lots of Valve, Ironman, and other references...

Three Laws of Robots...

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Kinda removes the point in Robot/Human Combat. And Robot/Robot Combat.

Obviously, robots designed for warfare will have drastically different programming. They may even be remotely controlled by humans, perhaps even via FIVR. (Which would be uber-fun. 8D )

That would work then, as it wouldn't be a robot, just a surrogate.
